Director Richard Sims

Only three months into my new job as Director of the Montana Historical Society, I have become a regular customer in the Museum Store. The reasons are many. First, it is convenient. I just walk from my office and through the lobby. Second, the Store carries all the items I look for when I am a tourist in other museums. I can purchase books of fiction and nonfiction about Montana, Native American arts and crafts, special retail products found only there, and souvenir postcards. If I am lucky, I might find something for my not-easy-to-shop-for wife, like that denim shirt with the logo of the Society, or maybe that silk bandana. Third, I know that I am supporting the entire Montana Historical Society, all its programs and projects, when I choose to be a customer in the Museum Store.

As a member (15% discount) or a nonmember, you can enjoy the Museum Store for my same three reasons. But wait, you say. I can't just take a one-minute stroll across the lobby. True. But you can take a stroll through this catalog at your convenience, without having to rise from your chair. You will make selections that give meaning to your Montana experience, selections which prolong the feeling of being in this land of endless sky and distant horizons. As a newcomer, your Director has already purchased six books, two bolo ties, one shirt, and one small silver turtle to add to my Indian turtle-art collection. I am a member, so I enjoy that discount as well. I hope the Store has a good stock of silk bandanas for the holidays. It will make my shopping go quickly. Your own holiday and year-round shopping can be quick and easy as well. Enjoy your catalog, and come shopping today in your Montana. Each purchase helps hold on to the Montana that all of us cherish, through the work of the Montana Historical Society.
