The Research Center of the Montana Historical Society maintains a large collection of library, archival, and photographic materials that may be used in compiling family histories.
Archival collections at the MHS Research Center
will be closed from October 15, 2013 until April 15, 2014 for
improvements to our collections storage facility. Although other
Research Center collections, such as books, newspapers and photographs,
will be open during this time, the closure may impact your research
Examples of requests that may be effected include Prison Records searches, business entity records, oral history transcripts, original diaries, letters, and legislative records. Other requests, such as obituary searches, brand histories, photograph research, vertical files, local histories and many other searches can still be completed. We strongly encourage you to contact us at email@example.com or 406-444-2681 prior to submitting your request to ensure that we can answer it in a timely manner.
Refunds will not be given for requests that cannot be answered due to the closure. These requests will be held until the Archives collections reopen and will be answered as soon as possible after April 15, 2014. You will be notified if your request fits this category.
If you are unable to visit our Research Center to conduct your own research, our staff will research your request for a small fee.
