The Montana Historical Society (MHS) Research Center maintains a large
collection of library, archive, and photographic materials. There are
several ways to access our extensive collection:
Visit the Research Center
Archival collections at the
MHS Research Center will be unavailable from October 15, 2013
until April 15, 2014 to allow improvement to our collections storage
facility. Other Research Center collections, such as books, newspapers
and photographs, will continue to be accessible during this time. The
Research Center will be open to the public during its standard operating

Interlibrary Loan Requests
Certain reference materials in our collection are available for

If you are not able to visit the Montana Historical Society (MHS)
Research Center to conduct your own research, we can assist you
for a small fee

Fees are charged for the staff time involved in doing the research
whether or not an answer is found. Patrons will receive a written
